The Velerity Advanced Resources is developing a low cost long duration energy storage solution that utilizes electricity thermal loop. The storage system stores and generates electricity with 90% round trip efficiency. Central to the system is sand for thermal energy storage. The system converts electricity into thermal energy utilizing a high temperature heat pump with a coefficient of performance of 3.0. The thermal energy is stored in an insulated container vessel containing sand. The thermal energy is converted back into electricity utilizing a steam turbine.
